O'Neill's

Dance Program

The O'Neill Dance Program is focused on building each student's artistic ownership and creative process discovery. As a dance student, you will be guided to experience dance and movement in new ways, take movement risks, challenge your dance practice, and embrace your individuality, personal creativity, and artistic autonomy.

Your movement experience at O'Neill will offer you a creative practice to expand and integrate with your current dance training.

Dance Through the Years

In the junior years, students will learn to; explore, experiment and interact with new dance; work collaboratively with each other; manipulate and design movement; and engage with dance histories.

In the senior years, students will; begin to hone their individual movement and creative processes; navigate through history and current issues with dance as a medium; use critical analysis, play, research, and inquiry; and work with concepts of performance.

Experience

Throughout all four years students will have experiential learning opportunities, such as working with professional artists from the Toronto dance community, building and sharing new artistic works, viewing professional performances, and being active within our Durham arts community.

Our program has strong standing relationships with York University, Concordia University, and The School of Toronto Dance Theatre, however our alumni have continued their practices at many Universities and Colleges throughout Ontario, Quebec, New York, LA, and London, UK. Our entire program is curated to prepare our students for post-secondary studies in Dance.
