Lauren Van Gijn, Dance

LAUREN VAN GIJN is a Dance Educator with the Durham District School Board, where she founded and continues to shape the dance program within a specialized arts faculty at O'Neill Collegiate Institute. She is proud to be a strong stakeholder in the dance education community, and is fascinated by the work, growth, and artistic potential of her students. Her love for dance education is consistently reignited as her students develop their artistic selves and challenge their creative abilities. She is committed to creating a smooth transition for her students from secondary dance learning into post-secondary dance studies.
Lauren holds an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Education from York University. She received her MA in Dance Studies at the University of Roehampton in London, UK, where she took a keen interest in the contrasts of dance education internationally. She has been an executive committee member for the PULSE Youth Dance Conference since 2008, and was the Dance Liaison for Ontario’s dance/drama subject association, CODE, from 2015 - 2019. Lauren has been invited annually to the National Round Table for the Arts, curated workshops for numerous organizations including the Ontario Teachers Federation, written curricular content for both CODE and the DDSB, and is currently invested in the upcoming refresh of the Ontario dance curriculum.
